Since 2007, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office (ACSO), with the support of the Bay Area Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) and more than 200 local, state, federal, international and private sector partners, has hosted a multi-disciplinary Homeland Security Exercise known throughout the world as Urban Shield.  Urban Shield is a full scale exercise involving Law Enforcement, Fire (USAI and HAZMAT), Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD)/Bomb Squad teams and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) hosted over a 48 hour protracted operational period.

In 2012, the event hosted thirty-one Tactical/SWAT Teams from the United States and abroad. Fourteen Fire agencies participated in 6 HazMat and USAR exercises, while six Federal and regional EOD Teams negotiated 3 scenarios.  Four Medical Checkpoints allowed teams to gain valuable experience and training in immediate medical/trauma care while over seventy-five law enforcement agencies took part in one form or another.  Over 4,500 persons were involved in the event as participants, role players, volunteers, and observers.  Early interest in the 2013 Urban Shield exercise indicates that the there will be more agencies participating this year.

Throughout the duration of the full scale training exercise participating teams are provided with state of the art technology, tactically inserted into the scenarios, allowing teams to evaluate the products effectiveness and provide the vendors with essential critical feedback on their products.  This is an important opportunity to get your company’s technology into the hands of the first responders throughout the San Francisco Bay Area

This year’s event will be held from Friday October 25 – Monday October 28, 2013.  Our trade-show will be hosted at the Oakland Marriot located at 1001 Broadway, Oakland, California on Friday, October 25, 2013.
